BEAUTIES OFF TO FASHION WITHOUT BORDERS
A number of beauty queens will represent Botswana at Fashion without Boarders in Sandton, South Africa this Saturday.
They include three Teen Tourism Ambassadors World Botswana, Shazia John, Katlego Matheakgomo and Hanna Breakspear. Director of Teen Tourism Ambassador World Botswana, Little Tourism Ambassador World Botswana and Mister and Miss Nature Conservancy, Naval John told Vibe that through Mister and Miss Nature Conservancy, which is a local pageant, they have decided to nominate other title holders to participate at the Fashion Without Borders fashion show. “Mister and Miss Nature Conservancy is a local pageant, founded by Shazia John as her beauty with a purpose project aimed at giving back to Mother Earth, unearthing talent and also bridging the gap between local and international arts industry. It is a Dream of the World where Nature and Human Blossom,” explained John.
The winners from the first Annual Mister and Miss Nature Conservancy who would be part of the team travelling to Sandton were crowned last year. They include Marang Modibu ( Little Miss Nature Conservancy 2023 Winner), Stephanie Rakokolo (Tot Miss Nature Conservancy 2023 1st Runner-Up), and Katlego Emmanuel Phuthologang (Mini Mister Nature Conservancy Winner and also Little Tourism Ambassador World Botswana 2023). Little Tourism Ambassador World Botswana 2024, Puoeng Maje also forms part of this team. John is confident that the team will represent the country, accordingly. She excitedly told Vibe that the pageantry space in Botswana continues to grow and get noticed at an international level and so they are happy to be sending quiet a number of title holders. She is of the view that talent should be groomed from a younger age. ”Botswana has diverse talents capable of winning world records/ international platforms, and our only challenge is that participants only get exposed on a later stage of their lives and they do not have enough time to work on their mistakes and perfect their skills as adulthood responsibilities knocks off their dreams. I wish for the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture office to recognise children's talents and not discriminate against them looking at their age,” she said.
