Garogwe Seeks COSBOTS Board Audience

- Mompati Tlhankane Staff Writer

Not long after Naledi Customary Court dismissed a case in which controversial jazz musician, Thabang Garogwe was charged with common nuisance following an altercation with Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS) CEO and complainant, Lesego Selotate, Garogwe has now written a grievance letter to COSBOTS Board Chairperson, Patrick Setsiba.

In the letter received by COSBOSTS on July 8, 2020, Garogwe said that Selotate’s actions have divided the organisation, damaged its image and reputation and subsequently polarised the relationship between the Board and members. Garogwe said the fact that Selotate has not responded to the letter he sent to the latter forced him to pen the letter to the Board.

Garogwe further said COSBOTS accused him of displaying thuggish behaviour. “I will like to know if the management and COSBOTS Board still hold the same views after the court outcome that vindicated me and cleared my name,” read part of the letter.

Garogwe who was not happy that the issue between him and Selotate led to a court case said he wanted to know if COSBOTS Board could solve internal disputes.

“In history you are the only Board that is inaccessible, that abandoned its fiducially duties and decided to become a group of hand clappers to the management of COSBOTS even on issues where the management is gravely wrong and driving members into a sinkhole of financial ruin,” he noted.

Garogwe further stated that he would give the Board seven working days for them to engage so as to try and resolve matters. Selotate told Showtime that he was aware of the letter that Garogwe wrote to Setsiba. However, an effort to reach Setsiba to acknowledge whether he had seen the letter was futile as his mobile phone was off.
