Orapa United Table Johnson Improved Offer

RANCISTOWN: Orapa United are elieved to have tabled a much-improved ffer to star player, Mothusi Johnson hose initial two-year contract with the lub ended in June.

Johnson has enjoyed a successful spell t the Ostriches, as Orapa are lovingly nown since his move from Gaborone nited (GU) two years ago. He has also een a regular for the national team since oining Orapa. Last season he was named he best player for the Orange FA Cup.

The Ostriches are said to have offered he Zebras left back a contract proposal ith a monthly salary of P13, 000 xcluding allowances. The contract ccording to sources, places Johnson mongst the club’s highest paid players ike Thabang Mosige who recently enewed his contract.

“In his previous contract, the player arned nearly P9, 000. The new mproved offer runs for three years,” said ne sources linked to the club.

In recent weeks, the future of the 23ear old had been subject of speculatio­n. or instance, there were those who aid the player’s stay in Orapa might ome to an end. However, this week well- placed source said that it looks ike the player’s time at Orapa might e extended. Johnson has been linked ith a big money move to his previous mployers, GU.

Yesterday Orapa spokespers­on, Kabo William confirmed that the club had given Johnson a new improved offer, but said that its details remained confidenti­al. Johnson is said to be willing to commit to a two-year contract instead of three years.

“We have given him a reasonable and fair offer that tallies with prevailing economic circumstan­ces, especially those linked to COVID-19. He has requested that he be given ample time to study the offer before making a final decision. If everything goes well, we expect him to sign sometime this week. He has been valuable to the club in recent years which is why we want to keep him,” William said.

Yesterday, Johnson said that he was still undecided on his future.

“I have received several offers from local clubs. However, my main priority is to remain at Orapa if I do not get an opportunit­y to go abroad. I have enjoyed my stay at the club. I will however make a final decision about my future soon, probably this week.”

He added, “I have also requested several videos (of matches he featured in) from BTV with a view of sending them to various scouts outside the country as my other wish is to play in profession­al leagues abroad.

I am yet to get the videos. Maybe if I get them timely and send them abroad, one of the clubs might be interested and ultimately sign me.”

The Ostriches recently renewed the contracts of key players such as Mosige and goalkeeper, Lesenya Malapela in a bid to gear for next season.
