-

Kwa Nokeng Oil, Botswana’s largest majority citizen-owned petroleum company recently opened a P60 million truck- stop in Kazungula bringing footprint across the country to 9 sites.

“We are excited about the latest addition to our network for three reasons firstly for the convenience of road transporters ferrying goods across the SADC region, secondly - our contribution towards growing the economy of Chobe district and of course that of the country and thirdly - creation of job opportunities for 50 people from the local community” said Mahube Mpugwa – Kwa Nokeng’s newly appointed Chief Executive Officer.

“We expect to see a significant increase in traffic with the opening of the Botswana/Zambia bridge and our facility which has the capacity to re-fuel 16 trucks simultaneously will ensure that both long distance road transporters and the local transport operators have access to adequate fuel supply”, he said. The new facility includes a 14-day storage capacity to provide an uninterrupted service for customers. Truck drivers filling up at new truck stop will have access to 10 showers, bathrooms and free WIFI.

Kwa Nokeng’s investments are aimed at complementing Botswana ambition to be the logistics hub for the SADC region as demonstrated by its presence in the form of truck stops at most of the country’s major borders including Lobatse, Mamuno, Martins Drift, Tlokweng industrial and with the Zimbabwe route be serviced from Dumela Industrial Area.

The company’s strategy is also to be present in parts of the country with a significant volume of road transporters as demonstrated by its operations in Maun and the on-going construction of another truck stop in Letlhakane which is expected to open before the end of the year.
