- Nnasaretha Kgamanyane Correspondent

This year, Hope Pageants Botswana hosts both its auditions virtually. According to the pageant’s director, Tlhatlogo ‘Sera’ Madiba, they will avoid physical auditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This beauty pageant is an international Christian-based pageant focusing on community service rather than glitz and glamour. Everyone aged between 13 to 27 years of age is allowed to partake in the auditions.

They will be done virtually by contacting us on 71365372 due to COVID-19 pandemic.

They are open from August 19 until 27, 2021. This year, the pageantry is more virtual and Top 20 will be selected per each category namely Miss Teen Hope and Miss Hope categories.

It is high time we instill technology usage to Batswana and foreign culture to be adopted and embraced,” she said. Madiba also pointed out that the grand finale will be showcased live adding that it would also be aired virtually through zoom. The grand finale will be held on October 30, 2021. She explained that she was aware of challenges brought by the pandemic but stated that did not put the world to a halt but required people to adjust to their circumstances. She promised to follow

COVID-19 protocols and guidelines such as sanitising, wearing masks, social distancing, minimising meeting hence carry on with activities visually. She said they always advice their contestants to lead by example and follow protocols.

Madiba also pointed out that they will host a community service project that focuses on sensitising, educating and spreading COVID-19 message. She said they also intend to adhere to worldwide pageantry standards.

The aim of Hope Pageants Botswana is to equip young women with skills that would make them go on in life despite difficulties and its emphasis is not on physical attributes.

It is open to people above five years and has diverse categories. Due to the pandemic, only two categories were chosen this year being Miss Teen Hope International for teens aged between 13 to 18 years of age. And Miss Hope International for young women aged between 19 to 27 years while the remaining categories will be hosted next year.

“This year, we have limited sponsors and need more sponsors to collaborate with us in training contestants and queens in preparations to represent Botswana internationally. We request our government, private sector and individuals to assist in this project and be part of Hope journey,” she ended.
