- Boitumelo Khutsafalo Staff Writer

Former Zebras striker, Onalethata Tshekiso has been re-elected the president of the Footballers Union of Botswana (FUB) at the union’s elective congress held at Travel Lodge in Gaborone on Saturday. Tshekiso contested for the position against another former national team striker, Sekhana Koko.

He has already said he will push for players’ development programs in his second term of office. Tshekiso also said the union will come up with initiatives in which players can pursue other career interests beyond footbal. He has also said players need to step up and realise that they are very important stakeholders in the game.

The rest of the positions were uncontested as candidates went into the elective congress unpopposed. Lesego Molemogi also retained his position as the union’s first vice president. Following the union’s constitutional amendments, the new structure now accommodates the position of second vice president, which is specifically reserved for women. The Mares captain, Bonang ‘Bebeto’ Otlhagile has started a new role in the position. She previously held the position of head of Women’s football committee in the FUB board.

Thapelo Radifalana continues as the union’s treasurer while Tebogo Mothusi serves as the Players relations officer. Gaborone United striker, Joel Mogorosi has also made it to the board as the male players representative while Pinkie Keakopa represents female players.
