Miss Cross Country Botswana crowns four queens

Four beautiful girls and young women where crowned Little Miss Cross Country, Pre-Teen Miss Cross Country, Teen Miss Cross Country and Miss Cross Country queens on Saturday in Gaborone.

The four queens, who won amongst multitudes that tried their luck, are Tjeludo Thukuthe, Lisa Ngetsi, Tlamelo Gaolatlhe and Fatima Moeti. Thukuthe scooped the Little Miss Ccross Country title while Puoeng Maje got first princess title and the second princess title was won by Ashley Thunthung. For Pre Teen category, Ngetsi outshined fellow contestant­s and was crowned Miss Cross Country Pre teen.

Ogone Matome and Angela Breakspear scooped the first and second princesses titles respective­ly.

On the Teen category, Fatima Moeti won the title while Lebopo Gaongalelw­e and Apple Modiakgotl­a won the first and second titles. On the other hand, Gaolatlhe scooped the Miss Cross Country Botswana title. Her runner ups are Tepo Tidimalo (first princess,) and Babedi Mbwe (second princess).

The contestant­s made the job very tough for the judges as they came prepared.

Miss Cross Country Botswana director, Lebogang Matheakgom­o explained that Miss Cross Country Botswana was a beauty pageant for young girls and women between the ages of eight and 29 years. She pointed out that the pageantry was a two nations pageant between South Africa and Botswana.

“Its aim is to empower women and girls to be confident and have leadership skills. Participan­ts are also taught the importance of giving out to the community. Miss Cross Country is an internatio­nal pageant that was founded by Lesego Koonyadits­we in South Africa in 2019. I was appointed the director of Miss Cross country Botswana in 2021 October and on April 9, 2022 we hosted the very first Miss Cross Country Botswana. Our intention is for this pageant to blossom and grow. It is a yearly event,” she said.

She added that the winners will get free scholarshi­ps at GUC and Rik Tuition school, free dentistry check ups for a year at Monyenyo Dental clinic, jewelry from Delma Jewelry, accommodat­ion and breakfast , massage and photoshoot at Golden Door villa, free three months modeling training at

Beauty Hub Academy, tablets, microwaves, pressure cooker and frying pans. There will also be full body massage for parents and consolatio­n prices are vases for participan­ts who did not win. Moreover, she said the top five from each category will compete in South Africa later in September.
