Botho University introduces new programmes
Botho University has introduced new programmes. The University started its life as a single discipline IT-focused institution but over the years, it became a strong multidisciplinary provider offering diploma, degrees and master’s programmes across various industry relevant disciplines in Computing, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Education, Hospitality, Health and Business with doctoral programmes in the pipeline awaiting regulatory approvals.
The new programmes include Bsc Cyber Security, Btech Information Systems, Msc Computer Science, PhD Computer Science, Diploma in Events Management, Diploma in Travel Operations, Msc Education and Curriculum Design and Instruction, Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Technology.
When giving remarks during the launch, Botho University vice chancellor, Sheela Raja Ram said that it is a norm at their institution to do things the right way. “We have always ensured that we are fully compliant with all regulatory requirements.
This means that in the four countries; Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Eswatini we are compliant with each respective country’s regulation plus we have also subjected ourselves to the African Union Quality rating mechanism and the ISO certification as added levels of scrutiny and quality assurance,” Ram said.
“In Botswana the regulator is the BQA {Botswana Qualifications Authority} and hence all these programmes being launched today are fully accredited by BQA. The new NCQF based programmes will be compatible with regional and international standards to facilitate easy transfer of credits.” With the future of work changing everyday, the types of skills required for the future are also changing dramatically hence Botho University saw it fit to introduce new programmes to produce the type of graduate employers want and ensure that the skills gap is bridged.
Botho spends a great deal of time and energy to ensure that graduates meet the needs of the future of work, she added. Ram pointed out that the various international partnerships that they have allow their staff and students to travel on exchange programmes and work with peers in other countries. This also adds up to their graduates gaining global experiences. Botho is well-known for being a leader in using technology, Ram said. “I am proud to state that when the pandemic hit us we switched seamlessly to online learning as both our staff and our students knew what to do, our investment in technology paid off in so many ways,” she said.
“We continue this journey of Digital Transformation and are currently involved with IFC (a World Bank organ) and Delloite on the D4TEP project that will help us move to the next level of technology use.”
