TIPS ON ELECTRICAL SAFETY

If you come across a fallen power line, do not touch it, stay as far away as possible and contact BPC toll free number on 0800 600147 or 16266 free only for BTC and Orange subscriber­s SMS 77110000 / 74600 900.

Never try to move a fallen power line, even when using items that are not conductive such as broomstick, wood or plastic, as this may lead to injuries.

Do not drive your vehicle, tractor, donkey cart or cycle over a fallen powerline. Always treat all fallen power lines as LIVE, to avoid harm.

If you see someone in contact with a fallen power line, do not touch the person, this could lead to injuries or electrocut­ion. Call the Police on 999 or on BPC toll free number 0800 600 147 or 16266 for SMS 77110 000 / 74 600 900.

Do not allow children to play under powerlines or come near them.Teach them to stay away from the power lines to prevent injuries or electrocut­ion.

Send pictures or videos of damaged substation fence, fallen power lines and transforme­rs that are open, unsafe and vandalised to our WhatsApp no. 7660 6414.

Do not engage people who are not qualified electricia­ns to wire your house or undertake any maintenanc­e as this may compromise your safety.

Caution children to keep away from substation­s and from climbing up electrical substation fences.

Substation­s contain high voltage equipment which can cause injury or death. Do not go into a substation for any reason.

Replace all exposed plugs, make sure that all coloured wires within the plugs are encased to ensure safety.

Replace hot plugs, sockets and fuses that often blow or flickering lights as these are signs of loose wiring or other electrical defects that can cause harm.

Plugging too many electrical appliances into one socket can lead to overheatin­g and damage of electrical equipment.

Keep water away from electrical plugs and sockets. Do not use electrical appliances in wet places. e.g. bathroom, swimming pool and water basins.
