WE MUST EVALUATE AND RE-ENGINEER

The current state of affairs cannot be left unattended

-

To remain steadfast on its mandate and relevance, a Union must constantly evaluate and re-engineer to align with the everchanging world.

Welcoming guests to the Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) products and services launch, Deputy President Comrade Kenathata Dipogiso, said many organizations continually assess their relevance in the market they operate under.

In this regard, he said BTU is no different to such, and it should constantly evaluate and re-engineer its products and services to improve access and benefits from time to time.

He said the Union must ensure that members’ professional and socio-economic advancement are taken care of apart from its primary mandate.

“Modern trade Unions do not only deal with bread and butter issues but have a role in bettering members’ socio-economic status, of which BTU is no exception,” underscored Comrade Dipogiso, adding that the Union will always do this to close a vacuum the Government somehow created.

He revealed that teachers globally face threats of privatization and casualization of teaching through contract and outsourcing; this requires the leadership to build a strong Union with economically well-empowered membership.

Comrade Dipogiso, said it is in response to these hardships that there is a need for the Union to do its best and look for different opportunities and “markets which we can use to enhance our members’ professional and economic status.”

In his parting shot, he pleaded with Government to find it revolutionary and reconsider bringing back GENVAS to the Unions to advance further, the interests of members.
