I’m happy Gaolathe is back - Boko

- Tsaone Basimanebotlhe Staff Writer

President of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Duma Boko, says he is happy that the Alliance for Progressives’ (AP) leader, Ndaba Gaolathe is back in the fold.

Speaking on Saturday at the Diphetogo grounds in the Gaborone Bonnington South constituency, Boko said Gaolathe understands the UDC better since he was part of the formation of the umbrella.

“Now I can sleep like a baby, knowing that UDC is in good hands,” Boko said jokingly. Boko also expressed happiness that the newly elected Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) president, Mephato Reatile, is also part of the umbrella as he understood the dynamics of opposition politics. Before defecting in 2014, Reatile was a member of the Botswana National Front (BNF), which is a member of the UDC. He said where UDC is, it needs genius leaders who would be able to direct it. “When our tempers are high, Gaolathe will help Molapisi to cool us since Reatile and I have similar attitudes when addressing political issues. The UDC is far from being dead as some may think and it is stronger than what many think,” he continued.

Boko said the BPF managed to listen to them when it had wanted to take the wrong direction and therefore they should be welcomed openly. The UDC leader further said there is no doubt that all these parties would be working together in the 2024 General Election. Boko also introduced the three presidents to the crowd and reassured them that they had agreed to work together in general election. He said they need the support of members when assigned party work. Currently, the UDC members are the BNF, the Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and its partners are the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) and AP.
