First Capital Bank champions financial inclusion, social responsibility

- Staff Writer

In a bid to redefine banking as a force for good, First Capital Bank Botswana has integrated corporate social responsibility (CSR) into its core values.

The Bank has committed to supporting community-based activities, focusing its CSR initiatives on health, education, vulnerable groups, and cultural enrichment.

One notable CSR project involves providing essential support to children in need. The Bank actively participates in initiatives such as donating school uniforms and ensuring that underprivileged children have the necessary resources for their education. Furthermore, First Capital Bank plays a pivotal role in promoting African culture and talent by sponsoring events like the Africa Bootcamp.

A shining example of the Bank’s commitment to community engagement is the ongoing Oketsa Campaign. This initiative, launched on May 22 and running until New Year’s Eve, rewards customers while generating potential customer interest.

Lucky loan applicants, like Koziba Phuluweni, are presented with fully fitted and branded mobile kitchens as a token of appreciation. Phuluweni’s excitement and gratitude are a testament to the positive impact the campaign has on the lives of its participants.

The Oketsa Campaign not only celebrates customers but also emphasises the Bank’s dedication to meeting their financial needs. First Capital Bank’s Country Manager of Consumer Lending, Thatayaone Matlapeng emphasised the campaign’s objective to increase customer prosperity. The campaign is aligned with the Bank’s broader goal of financial inclusion and loyalty rewards.

As if to prove that it is indeed community-centric, the Bank has gone beyond its innovative financial products and campaigns, spearheading inclusive finance through a recently launched strategic partnership with Orange Money.

This collaboration aims to make banking more accessible, especially for the unbanked population. The partnership enables customers to transfer money to and from the Orange Money wallet and on-the-go Lefika savings account openings through Orange Money, fostering financial inclusion.

Both the Bank and Orange Money emphasised the significance of the strategic alliance as a step forward, combining the strengths of First Capital Bank and Orange Money to empower customers with greater financial control.

The Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Dr Haija Mahomed-Tajbhai emphasised that this collaboration transcends business, aspiring to change lives, especially for the unbanked, by providing freedom and access from anywhere, anytime.

First Capital Bank’s commitment to both financial inclusion and social responsibility reflects its vision of becoming a transformative force in the banking sector, championing positive change within Botswana’s communities.
