MAN FOUND DEAD IN THAMALAKANE RIVER

- BY CATHERINE MOEMEDI

Maun Police are investigating the cause of death of a 26-year-old man of Disaneng ward in Maun who was reported missing last week Friday only to be found dead in Thamalakane River on Monday.

According to Assistant Superintendent Boreseletse Papane, “The body was found about 50 meters from Old Matlapana Bridge at 4pm.”

“The deceased was found trapped by aquatic plants deep in the river, his body was found still in good condition due to the cold weather and no injuries were noticed on him so we suspect he committed suicide by drowning himself. His family has been notified of the incident and they were able to identify him, he has since been taken to the mortuary,” Papane said.

It is alleged that prior to the incident the deceased had a misunderstanding with his lover.

The distressed young man is said to have posted his grievances on his social media with the last post being a picture taken from Matlapana Bridge where it is suspected that he jumped into the river.

Papane urged the public to seek counselling whenever they have problems because taking one’s life is not a solution instead it is a creation of even more problems. “People should learn to speak out because bottling in does more harm than good. Problem shared is half solved,” advised Papane.
