SMALL SCREEN FOR DENZEL
Young tennis ace, Denzel Seetso’s journey in the sport will soon be beamed in living rooms across the world through a documentary by Ian P. Universal (PTY).
According to international Director/producer, Ian Venganai, the 15-year-old Seetso’s tennis life will be captured in a four-part documentary titled “The Golden Racket: Story of Denzel”.
“The documentary will run for 10 years, and the first trailer will be released on 4th July on various media outlets such as International film festivals, Supersport and Netflix,” said Venganai.
The 2019 number 1 ranked tennis player has been one of he country’s sporting success stories, and has made a lasting impression with many pundits predicting a successful tennis career.
In an interview with Voice Sport, Venganai said he noticed Seetso’s talent during the country’s State of Emergency (SOE).
“Denzel is an unexpected discovery which I felt for someone of his caliber, at such an age, deserves a global platform. He’s a young man on the way to being the world’s number 1,” he said.
Venganai further said after a successful meeting with Seetso’s supportive mother and his coach,
Phenyo Matong, they immediately started shooting.
The youngster’s proud mother, Martina Seetso, said Denzel started playing tennis at a young age and never looked back.
“It was his decision and when I realised that he was really serious, that was when I started supporting him and growth in the sport was rapid. After his 18 months stint in Kenya, where he was given a scholarship, his game has drastically improved,” she said.
Seetso further said the whole idea behind this documentary is to help other aspiring young tennis players to see that everything is possible with a little bit of hard work.
“A production of this magnitude requires skill and massive financial support. This represents Botswana’s achievements and I’m hoping that someone out there would recognise the work we are doing and give a helping hand,” Seetso said.
She, however, said shooting of the documentary is progressing well despite minor hiccups. Seetso said they have Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) and a few individuals who know Denzel’s goals and work ethic rallying behind them.
