SHOOTINGS SHOCK NATA

Murder-suicide leaves two dead

- BY CHRISTINAH MOTLHABANE

NATA Police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide that occurred in the town late last Thursday morning.

A 48-year-old man is said to have shot and killed a 51-year-old woman before turning the gun on himself and blowing his brains out.

Allegations are that the man was married and the lady he killed was his former lover, whom he murdered after she refused to take him back.

Narrating the incident in a brief interview with The Voice this week, Nata Station Commander, Vincent Pitseitsile, revealed his officers received the report at around 1100 hours.

“We were told a woman was shot dead at her rented house at Basimane ward. The police went to the crime scene where they found the woman’s body lying in a pool of blood. She was immediately rushed to Nata clinic where she was certified dead,” stated Pitseitsile.

“After a few minutes, we got another call that a man had shot himself at Didibakwe cattlepost, which is roughly 5km from where we found the woman’s body. He shot himself in the head and died upon arrival at the clinic,” continued the top cop.

When asked about allegations that the two were one-time lovers, Pitseitsile was quick to play down such talk.

“The matter is still fresh and the investigations are on-going. We have not yet gotten to that one. The deceased’s bodies are still at the hospital awaiting post-mortem,” he said, adding this was the first murdersuicide case reported in his jurisdiction since the start of the year.

“I urge people to solve their problems amicably. Life is precious; no one should take it away,” concluded the police boss.
