THE VOICE BUILD HOUSE FOR PALLA ROAD FAMILY News.thevoicebw.com
Last Saturday, in line with their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRS), The Voice Newspaper and Born and Raised officially handed over a house the two organisations built for a Palla Road family.
The fully furnished two-bedroomed house comes connected with electricity and water. Giving an overview of the project, The Voice Managing Director (MD), Marc G. Kasale revealed the initiative was conceived by Matsosa Social Club, who had initially planned to donate a standpipe to the Motlhale family. “But upon visiting the family, they realized that besides lack of portable water, the family didn’t have decent accommodation,” said Kasale. He explained the Club then approached The Voice for assistance. The people’s paper subsequently contacted Born and Raised, who agreed to be part of the project by contributing building material and furniture. Kasale paid tribute to The Voice’s Founding Partner, the late Beata Kasale for planting a spirit of giving within the organisation she helped found. The MD said he was proud to see her legacy living on, noting The Voice has contributed immensely to uplifting the lives of less privileged members of society, mainly through its popular column, ‘Real Lives’. “This is where we profile stories of the less fortunate with the hope that Good Samaritans will come on board. And I must say, we have received tremendous support in that regard,” he stated, further calling on other companies to follow suit and play their part as well. The Voice MD stressed that housing is a basic human right recognised in international human rights law. “Besides providing shelter, decent housing also provides dignity to a person and we hope that this is the beginning of many more similar initiatives to come from The Voice,” concluded Kasale.
Speaking at the event, Mahalapye East Member of Parliament (MP), Yandani Boko commended both organisations for their selfless actions. “No one has ever died from giving. By giving out, you are not making yourselves poor, but you are making yourselves rich as by doing this you are inviting more blessings from God,” declared Boko. The MP also thanked Matsosa Social Club for identifying the needs of the family, adding that the house will give the family ‘the dignity it deserves’. Speaking on behalf of Born and Raised, Molatedi Kgotla said as a youth-owned business, they have the challenge to see where they can help in society. “Born and Raised always organise a music festival towards the end of every year in December in Serowe, this is our fifth in existence,” disclosed Kgotla. He said the company is committed to giving back to the community in whatever way they can. “There are two [areas] closer to our hearts at Born and Raised. The first one is education and the second one is the dignity of a person,” said Kgotla, reiterating earlier comments that decent accommodation is one crucial way of providing dignity to a person. Palla Road Councillor, Flocia Sekgwathe praised The Voice, Born and Raised and Matsosa Social Club for their life-changing generosity. For her part, the housing beneficiary, Motjwana Motlhale expressed gratitude to The Voice, Born and Raised, and Matsosa for immensely improving her life. “The Voice Newspaper did for me what I needed, and for that I thank them,” said the grateful recipient, the joy evident in her weatherbeaten features.
