MAN KILLS LOVER, COMMITS SUICIDE
Shakawe police are investigating a case in which a body of a 27-yearold man was found hanging in his girlfriend’s house in Seronga village on Monday morning.
The lifeless body of the 21-year-old girlfriend was later discovered lying in a pool of blood at the man’s house at Nngabao ward in Seronga.
Confirming the incident, officer commanding for policing District 17 in Okavango Sub District, Victor Nlebesi, said the cause of the gruesome murder has not yet been established.
“The matter was reported to the police by the woman’s family. According to the grieving family, after waking up in the morning, one of the family members entered the woman’s house and found her boyfriend hanging from the rafters with a wire tied around his neck,” said Nlebesi.
However, the girlfriend was not in the house and they went to the boyfriend’s house, which is not very far from their home because they immediately feared this could be one of the passion related killings which for many years have haunted Botswana .
Their worst fear was confirmed immediately when they entered the house as right there on the floor, their daughter lay motionless in a pool of her own blood and a knobkerrie lying next to her.
The suspicion is that the man had bludgeoned her with the knobkerrie before taking his own life, but police investigations are not conclusive as yet, said Nlebesi, “We are still investigating and we have no answer as to what could have transpired because at the moment there are no witnesses to the actual acts and no messages have be left behind. The woman had a deep wound on the head, which is a sign of possible attack.”
Nlebesi further explained that the family described the couple’s relationship as having been peaceful. Allegedly the two were devoted Christians and nobody suspected that they could end in a tragic manner.
“I do encourage couples to speak and seek counselling when they are troubled instead of resorting to violence. They should seek help from the elders, social services and even our police offices are open to hear them out. It is heartbreaking to see young lives being lost in this brutal manner,” Nlebesi added.
