CYCLING FOR CHARITY
TEN local cyclists will embark on a 450km ride next month to raise funds for a charitable cause in the Ngamiland District.
Riding will commence on the 16th to the 20th of August covering Skombondoro, Kaoxwi, Mohembo, Xhaunga, Nxamasere, Sepopa, Ikoga, Etsha 1, 6 and 13, Gumare, Nokaneng and Tsau. Funds raised from this activity will be used to buy masks, sanitisers and thermometers which will be distributed to the needy in these villages.
According to the ride organiser, Kitso Motshidisi, this is an annual event which they have been doing for the past six years. He said beneficiaries of the Covid- 19 essentials will predominantly be those with non-communicable diseases.
“In the past, we donated looking at people’s needs and this year we realised the most challenging issue is Covid hence giving health essentials. We will also sensitise the communities on various topics that include living a healthy lifestyle particularly during these challenging times as well as proper use of face masks,” he said.
Motshidisi said they’re excited to have partnered with corporate entities that are passionate about uplifting livelihoods across Botswana.
“Covid-19 continues to claim the lives of many, particularly those with non-communicable diseases. It is important for all to opt for healthy eating and exercise daily to reduce the harshness of the disease as advised by medical experts,” said Motshidisi.
Motshidisi implored the public and business community to support the initiative financially or donate health essentials for more people to benefit. He also asked those who can assist cyclists with meals, refreshments and accommodation to reach out. He further thanked all the cyclists participating in this initiative and commended them for their boldness, philanthropy, and patriotism.
Pula Medical Aid Fund is the main sponsor of the activation through a donation of masks, sanitisers and thermometers to the value of P30,000. The company’s Principal Officer, Dr Khumoetsile Mapitse, is the guest rider.
