GOT GLOTTO GLOW?
New sub-saharan fashion!
Glotto is an evolving, youthful creative brand established by young, impeccable designer, Mboko Basiami. Not only does Glotto translate its aesthetic solely through fashion but as well as conceptual storytelling - visual arts.
Glotto emulates a certain Sub Saharan glow that the creative director, Mboko, believes all young Batswana women possess, and encourages all to shine beyond their limitations for that #Glottoglow:
“Introducing Glotto’s latest collection, GLOTTO Autumn/ Winter 2021, In an effort to brace or protect ourselves from the brutal sub-saharan winter, we sought inspiration from the natural protective adaptations found in Botswana’s fauna and flora. Being a brand from a semi desert country, the prickly pear or ‘ motoroko’
is a usual sight with its prickly thorns that form as a natural protection from predators. We chose a wall of the prickly cacti plant as our GLOTTO AW’21 backdrop to symbolize the layer of garments the Gids have. Our National animal, the graceful zebra adorns its beautiful stripes that provide a camouflage in its habitat; the same stripes that adorn our Glotto AW’21 zebra puffer jacket will provide our gids with protection adorned with our Classic golden lettered “Glotto”. Whilst introducing new designs and prints, we maintained our Classic brand aesthetic of deep earth ones and love for texture with our range of corduroy pieces including unisex bootleg pants. Our Glotto AW’21 patchwork jacket is an authentic handcrafted collectors piece which incorporates our love for sand hues and is an ode to the classic “Malome jacket”
that we know this jacket will passed down generations as an heirloom. Following our Glotto velvet collection in 2019, we stuck to our classic Glotto velvet pieces such as our polos and twinsets. Velvet fabric is widely known as an opulent material royals used to give warmth during winter and because we all Glotto Gids are young, African Royalty, we stick to the fabric in different textures, our Classic Glotto sculpted sweaters from Glotto AW’18 most popularly seen on Kaone Kario have been redesigned with a monk collar.”
