“MAMA I MADE IT”

-

I never get to talk about the nights I barely remember

With blurry visions and staggered steps mid November And the spectacle vision traps, The nights I’ve found myself faded on a night club sofa But fading into the crowds could only get me so far

Exam season was just a test to see if the academic system stood a chance against alcohol in my weak system and an even weaker belief system So let’s talk about the exams I’ve been caught writing mid-highs And the rationalised explanations that were just duffle bags filled with white lies But something happens when your mum cries Something greater than the love for the high dies To see those tears well up in her eyes There was something I had to despise I had to let go of the clutches the good good had on me So I could be the person I’ve always wanted to be And guess what mum, I made it 4 years later and I finally got that degree And I can ultimately see, That you were right About having to always have my footing Lest I found myself tripping Cause you knew once I fell into that door I’d always want more But ignorance is bliss And the loud drowned the words coming from your lips So I did what I did And the results I decided to keep hid

I am a few points short of a decent GPA But that’s the price I have to pay for playing with Jay Going astray and believing everything will be okay Cause if I wasn’t injecting it into my arm, Then I wasn’t doing no harm ey

If this realization didn’t come this late, I would’ve done a lot better that’s no debate Most of my friends, they couldn’t get out in time They’ve become mimes to drugs Walking corpses with puppet like strings The jay has them so hooked Silent cotton mouth, acting out behaviours they can never account for

Blurry vision and staggered steps Spectacle vision traps A lifestyle I had to review I knew, A drug free life I had to pursue And that starts with me being true Draw my own map And get rid of the cap Being True is the new cool.
