DIS ALLEGEDLY GOES AFTER KHAMA

I am aware of the plan to arrest me - Khama

- BY DANIEL CHIDA

FORMER President, Ian Khama, is alleged to have been a wanted man by the security agents on Wednesday after it had transpired that one of his private security guards was linked to a suspect in a recent robbery.

According to a reliable source, agents from the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) were on Khama’s trail on Wednesday after it had transpired that one of the suspects in the recent robbery of a security company was a close associate of one of Khama’s bodyguards.

The said suspect was found in possession of a gun, which the authorities suspect could be Khama’s.

“The suspect is one of those arrested from past robberies around the city. He has been detained, but, on Wednesday, we got Intel that the DIS were planning to arrest Khama, too,” a source close to the former president said.

He added that they pleaded with Khama to retreat to a safer place and avoid the possible humiliation of public arrest.

Although he could not distance the bodyguard from links with the suspect, the source said that Khama had nothing to do with the money heist.

When contacted for comment, Khama confirmed that he was aware of the plan to arrest him.

“I am aware of the plan. The problem is the usual one that has been in existence for the last three years. It is called vindictiveness driven by abuse of power as proven by the well-known attempt to implicate me in their lies about the theft of P100 billion perpetrated by this regime. I do not feel threatened or worried. They are the ones who are troubled because they resort to using state agencies to carry out the intimidation of citizens they are scared of,” he said.

Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from the DIS proved futile as phones of the Director General, Peter Magosi, and the agency’s spokesperson, Edward Robert, did not go through at the time of going to press.
