RECOVERY IS FOR EVERYONE!

-

RECOVERY Month is observed every September to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the emergence of a strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible.

The 2021 Recovery Month theme is “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, and Every Community”. This theme works to inspire people across the world to transform the “I” into “we” and build bridges between families and communities. We celebrate our diversity and seek to develop a deeper understanding, caring, and connection that nurtures recovery.

The focus areas of the 2021 Recovery Month include the impact of communities, families, and social groups on the prevalence and recovery of mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. By asserting that “Recovery is for Everyone,” we strive to reduce the stigma surrounding people with substance use or mental health disorders.

“Recovery is for Everyone” means we are proud of our diversity, and we are committed to sharing our personal accomplishments and struggles, reaching across barriers to support one another, and actively dismantling systems that harm our recovery neighbors. Recovery is for everyone because it benefits everyone. In recovery, we build new connections to ourselves, our families, and our communities.

While it may be tempting to characterise recovery as a universal experience or single journey, there are as many pathways to and of recovery as there are people. Our strength is our diversity and because of who we are, the recovery community has unique opportunities to learn, challenge, grow, and dream. Mental health and substance use disorder are not one-size-fit all conditions, nor do they affect everyone equally.

BOSASNET is spreading the message that mental health and SUD treatment is accessible. Through media efforts, we continue to encourage people to access confidential and evidence-based treatment that is available to them. We also encourage our clients who are in recovery and are willing to share testimonies to do so, and let others know that treatment is more effective when people have support of friends, families and communities. BOSASNET also helps families of those going through treatment to understand addiction and be able to help the person using substances more effectively during their recovery journey.

To heal ourselves, our communities must also heal. Social connections, family support, and neighborhood relationships are directly linked to wellness and recovery. We must ensure that everyone has the same chance at recovery. When we celebrate our connections to the diversity of people from all walks of life striving for recovery, we find support and courage to speak up for inclusion, respect, and opportunity. Recovery Month serves as a reminder that when we empower communities and families, we are engaging in healing that extends beyond the individual.

BOSASNET offers counselling services to people experiencing problems with substance use, depression, anxiety, stress, anger management and adjustment issues. If you think that you might have a problem mentioned above, or if you have a friend or family member who does, we encourage you to seek help. For some, it can mean the difference between life and death. You can find BOSASNET on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok or call us on 3959119 or 72659891 for more information.
