EX-CONVICT HACKS WIFE ON THE HEAD WITH AN AXE

- BY GOFAONE KOOGOTSITSE

Barely a month after he was released from serving a two-year sentence for stock theft, Simane Kgosiemang has returned to prison for unlawful wounding.

Kgosiemang, 55, was arrested and incarcerated after Independence Day for allegedly hacking his wife on the head with an axe.

He unlawfully wounded his wife, Keneilwe Kgosiemang, 36, on October 1st, 2021 around 0300hrs over accusations that she was having an affair with her pastor.

Sources close to the family have alleged that the wife had promised to leave the church but after a whole night of quarrelling, the enraged man switched off the lights and went outside to pick an axe, which he used under the cover of darkness to attack the wife.

Heavily bleeding, Keneilwe escaped to the children’s bedroom and later sneaked out to the clinic where she was referred for admission at Scottish Livingstone Hospital, a family member has revealed.

During Kgosiemang’s arraignment before Molepolole Magistrates’ Court, the Investigating Officer under the Gender and Child Protection Unit, Constable Masedi Rasefako, told the court that the accused had told her that on the day he unlawfully wounded his wife, he had intended to kill her and proceed to burn the pastor’s vehicle and finally kill himself to show the public that the pastor was the cause of trouble in his family.

“When I called the pastor for confrontation, the pastor greeted the accused but he didn’t respond, which means there is still tension. I also fear that the ongoing tension between the accused and his wife’s aunt might continue. The incident occurred in the presence of the children, who are still traumatised and have not been taken for counselling,” explained Constable Rasefako.

Further pleading with the court to remand Kgosiemang, Rasefako said she had not yet received the medical report from the victim and that the victim needed to be given an opportunity to recover while the whole family needed counselling.

“Accused acted aggressively using violence on his wife. He has an issue that his wife disrespects him; that she prefers

listening to the pastor and not him. It’s a serious offence and he needs to be separated from the community,” concluded Constable Rasefako.

Magistrate Keabetswe Majuta ruled in favour of the state and noted that the accused did not deny intentions to kill his wife and commit suicide after burning the pastor’s vehicle.

Kgosiemang will be remanded in custody till his next mention scheduled for 26th October. The pastor was still too traumatised to comment.
