NYEC SET FOR SEROWE THIS WEEKEND
Multitudes are anticipated to throng Serowe this coming weekend for the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) National Youth Policy Forum fronted by the National Youth Executive Committee (NYEC).
Some of the activities set to take place comprise the review of existing youth policies, the crowning of Miss BDP and choir competitions.
The activities are slated for 25th – 27th November and shall be officiated by the Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane, on Friday at Lady Khama Hall in Serowe. President Mokgweetsi Masisi is also expected to grace the national youth forum proceedings.
In an interview, NYEC chairman and area councillor for Lenganeng ward in Tlokweng, Collen Mochotlhi, highlighted that the proceedings are dedicated to addressing youth policies and programmes nationwide in alignment with prioritising the best interest of the youth. The objective is to engage different branches to voice out the challenges that they face as well as suggest resolutions that can be put into place to overcome the challenges in subject. Presentations and interactive sessions are expected to cover issues that mainly affect the youth.
“The whole idea is to address challenges faced by the youth - primarily unemployment as it is currently a leading concern,” he stated.
PATRONS
The national youth forum is projected to attract over 4 000 patrons hence it will economically empower locals. “Local businesses will be boosted looking at the fact that these masses will actively engage their services,” the young leader added.
Apart from the deliberations, one of the 50 finalists will be crowned Miss BDP 2022. The queen will walk away with a P20,000 cash prize. The incoming queen will be tasked with handling implemented charity and empowerment engagements.
Norah Mcaslin, who is one of the beauty pageant organisers, cemented that Miss BDP 2022 exists purposely to serve as a platform to find an ambassador for the youth, who will actively participate in urging the youth to take charge and engage in voting. “We want young people to be involved in politics and to have a voice. Therefore, we are looking for a beautiful young lady who will serve as a link between elders and the youth,” she added. The queen is expected to convey the importance of voting as the 2024 elections approach. Apart from that, the queen will be devoted to charitable activities of which she will select an organisation of her choice to work with.
Moreover, there is a choir competition that attracted interest from different branches slated for Saturday evening. The choir which will emerge victorious will walk away with a cash prize and attain full accountability to perform at all BDP festivities for the rest of next year.
