• Tafic to unveil new investor this week

- BY KABELO DIPHOLO

On Saturday, a new look Tafic Football Club will trot onto the field to take on First Division North rookies, Rolling Guys. The Mahalapye outfit will meet a Francistown side that is yet to lose after three rounds of matches.

Tafic opened their season with a 2-all draw away to Sankoyo Bush Bucks, before a hard-fought 1-1 home draw against Santa Green last Saturday. The Reds followed that up with an impressive first season victory away to Miscellaneous on Saturday.

In an exclusive interview with Voice Sport on Wednesday, the club’s charismatic Chairman, Tumelo Toteng, said he believed the team has finally turned a corner following their miraculous escape from relegation last season.

Without getting into details, Toteng told Voice Sport that the dream of seeing Tafic operating as a company had finally been realised.

“We’re almost done, expect a new look Tafic on Saturday,” he added.

The 34-year-old chairman, who took the reigns following a tumultuous season, said being a full company means the usual controversies that dogged the club for decades will now be things of the past.

“Unfortunately, I cannot reveal the name of our new investor until completion of the the relevant paperwork,” he said.

“He’s a football fan, and even better, a Tafic supporter at heart. Everything will be shared with the media in due course,” was all Toteng was prepared to say.

The Chairman told Voice Sport that under the new company name, Tafic FC, the team will immediately work on reviving youth teams and forming a ladies’ team.

He said they’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that whoever comes on board as a sponsor or investor has the best interests of the team at heart.

“We’re running this team on behalf of its supporters, and we wanted an investor who understood that supporters are an important stakeholder, without themm we’re nothing,” he said.

Toteng is confident that Matjimenyenga will be playing in the Premier League next season.

“All the signs are there. At this stage last season, we only had one point. Today, after three games, we are at five points, of which four were collected away,” he said.

Kick-off is at 1530hrs at the Old Francistown Stadium.
