- EXPANDING FOOTPRINT: ABMUC BY BUSINESS REPORTER

One of Botswana’s private tertiary institutions, Academy of Business Management University College (ABMUC), has opened a new campus in Masunga, in the North-east District.

The new campus, located at Chilinda ward, boasts a state-ofthe-art equipped Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Tourism and Hospitality laboratories for practicals.

ABMUC offers Degree, Advanced Diploma, Diploma, Certificate programmes and corporate training programmes through full-time, part-time and block release.

While the Masunga Campus is open for applications for the January 2023 intake, classes will only commence in the first week of February. According to the campus management, they have a special offer of 15 percent partial scholarship to applicants of this academic year and a flexible payment plan.

ABMUC, according to officials, sees Masunga as a perfect spot to build a campus to bring services to the people and cut costs for students such as accommodation, transport, groceries and many others. The campus also aims to close the gap of tertiary education scarcity for the community in the North East District and beyond.

“The Institution shall further empower the local youths and secondary school students by offering free services for basic training in ICT, entrepreneurial and leadership skills as a way to contribute to the Botswana Government agenda of inclusivity and a knowledge-based economy. AMBUC will also engage in mentorship programmes in the form of entrepreneurship and leadership clubs at secondary schools.

ABMUC was incorporated in 1989 as Academy of Business Management. It was registered with the Ministry of Education in 1990 as a Private Vocational Institution. Since its registration with BOTA, now BQA in 2003 and TEC in 2005 now HRDC, ABMUC has evolved into a university college and is now gearing to becoming a fully-fledged university that embeds entrepreneurship and leadership development. The institution currently offers a range of programmes at certificate, diploma and degree level, through conversional as well as ODL. Postgraduate Masters level programmes will be introduced in the near future.

To date, the Institution has contributed immensely to the development of human resources in the country, having trained thousands of people employed in different positions in government, parastatals and private corporate bodies within the various sectors of the economy.

The institution also prides itself in contributing towards the achievement of Botswana’s National Vision pillars of “Sustainable Economic Development and Human and Social Development” through the delivery of dynamic curriculum.

In its quest for excellence, ABMUC continues to form strategic partnerships with different institutions. ABMUC is a proud member of the Association of African Universities (AAU), a networking and exchange platform for reputable tertiary institutions in Africa.
