ISAAC KGOSI BACK IN COURT FOR CORRUPTION

- BY OLEOSI KGOSI

Former Director General of Directorate of Intelligence and Security, Isaac Seabelo Kgosi, was arraigned before Gaborone High Court on Wednesday morning to account for a single count of corruption by a public officer.

The matter was initially before the Magistrates’ Court but has since been committed to the High Court.

The particulars of the offence are that on July 31st, 2009 the retired DIS boss, formerly employed in the public service, indirectly accepted a total sum of P687,281.29 from Vlatacom D.O.O in a corrupt deal.

The charge sheet outlined that the accused used his highly capacitated influence to recommend that Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) sanction a direct appointment of Vlatacom D.O.O to provide DIS with services including countrywide communication infrastructure, supply of electronic identity cards and production system.

Furthermore, other services included the supply and installation of Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Taking the stand before Judge Mokwadi Chris Gabanagae, the former chief spy reserved his plea as he did not plead guilty or not guilty, noting that he was only seeing the charge sheet at court and was yet to seek legal advice from his lawyers.

Representing the former spy boss, Baratile Ntsholetsang of Mack Bahuma Attorneys standing in for Unoda Mack substantialised their client’s stance that they were to look into the details of the charge before reverting.

The matter is further to be heard later this year on August 24th.
