The tutorial system is expected to enhance quality learning
Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) launched a digital online project dubbed ‘BOSETU Educloud’ last Friday at Selibe Phikwe main mall under the theme: “Shaping the future of learners through smart learning and digitisation”.
BOSETU Educloud is an online tutorial platform which gives an opportunity to BOSETU members to offer online tutorial services to primary and secondary school students during out of school hours at a fee. The launch was graced by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Ms. Marriam Maroba, who was also the guest speaker. Selibe Phikwe town Mayor Lucas Modimana, Bosetu Vice President Mogomotsi Motshegwa, Bosetu President Winston Radikolo and Vice Secretary Botshelo Maruatona were also among the dignitaries who attended the event. When giving his welcome remarks, the Mayor said he was impressed with BOSETU’S initiative as it is in line with President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s reset agenda. “As a country, we are undergoing national transformation, which is being led by His Excellency President Mokgwetsi Masisi, and I am pleased to see that BOSETU is moving in the right direction by attempting to digitalize our education system in order to achieve better results,” said Modimana. With its over 22 000 subscribers, BOSETU has developed the system through which members can earn money from the comfort of their own homes. BOSETU president Radikolo, for his part, stated that when they took office, they crafted an ambitious strategy to transform BOSETU into a high-performance organization. “We wanted to create value for our members and this value will be looking at the professional and social aspect of our members. Whatever we want to do should be able to enhance value into the lives of our members,” said Radikolo. The BOSETU president also stated that the programme would help pupils perform better since they will have easy access to a variety of educators and educational materials. In her keynote address, Maroba noted that the launch coincided with the government’s deliberate effort to transform education by bringing digital tools and resources into the school environment through the School Digitalization Project, which has paved the way for various online learning platforms. “The deployment of devices to both teachers and learners on a 1:1 basis has opened opportunities for learners to explore online teaching and learning resources such as Educloud. Learners will be at liberty to get tutorials, curriculum support, exam preparations and all the help they need to augment learning,” Maroba concluded. Students and members of BOSETU in attendance were schooled on how to register and manoeuvre through the system after the launch and were encouraged to spread awareness about Educloud.
