- BY LEUNGO MOKGWATHI

Police in Mahalapye are on the hunt for suspects who allegedly caused the death of one of the village’s most wanted criminals in an apparent mob justice incident at Thomadithotse ward on the 16th November. Mahalapye Police Assistant Superintendent, Paulos Makhane, has informed this publication that a manhunt is on to find the suspects who are facing a murder charge.

This publication has learnt that the deceased, who went by the aliases ‘Tjatje’ and ‘Ras Fonda’ (real names withheld), was on Mahalapye Police’s wanted list for several charges, including two rape incidents.

Mahalapye Police Station Commander, Superintendent Omphile Malemenyane, confirmed this in an interview with this publication, stating that investigations are still ongoing, to find the suspects.

“We received a call about an alleged mob justice, and our officers arrived to find the man pretty much left for dead, after being attacked with iron rods, stones and wooden sticks.”

The 30-year-old man was admitted to Mahalapye Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, but succumbed to the injuries the next morning at around 3am.

A murder case has been opened as a result of this incident and police request anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of those responsible for the death of the victim, to contact Mahalapye Police Station.

A similar incident allegedly occurred in Goodhope over the weekend,

involving another notorious robber who was allegedly thrashed by a mob after he attempted to steal a phone. According to sources, he had just escaped from police holding cells. Luckily, the police helped him escape the vicious crowd before they could kill him.

Malemenyane has warned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
