-

What are your academic credentials?

I have graduated with a Bachelor of Media Studies from the University of Botswana. I am currently studying for MSC Project Management with the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom.

Congratulations on your recent appointment as the Director of Corporate Communication at BPOPF, how does it feel?

Thank you! It’s truly a humbling experience, a convergence of my passion for communication and my dedication to serving the community. Stepping into this role feels like embarking on a new verse of a familiar hymn, filled with anticipation, excitement, and a profound sense of responsibility. I am eager to harmonise the BPOPF’S vision with the aspirations of its stakeholders, weaving a narrative that resonates far and wide.

What is the highlight of your career?

Aah, the highlight of my career is akin to a crescendo in a symphony, a moment that reverberates with joy and fulfilment. Winning the Best Contemporary Gospel award at BOMU 2015 stands out as a testament to the power of faith and perseverance. It was a soul-stirring affirmation of the impact music can have in touching hearts and uplifting spirits. But beyond accolades, every note sung in worship, every chord struck in harmony, is a highlight in its own right, a testament to the boundless grace that guides my journey.

And you’re also a Gospel artist and a corporate MC, Please tell us more?

Indeed! Being a gospel artist and a corporate MC allows me to navigate diverse realms of expression, each enriching the other in a beautiful symphony of purpose. As a gospel artist, I pour my heart into melodies that echo the divine, inviting listeners on a spiritual journey of renewal and revelation. And as a corporate MC, I weave narratives that bridge hearts and minds, infusing events with energy, charm, and a touch of inspiration. It’s a delicate dance between the sacred and the secular, but one that resonates deeply with my soul.

What inspired you to pursue a career in Gospel music?

My upbringing in a Christian household, coupled with the encouragement and support of my mother and church elders, instilled in me a deep passion for praising and worshiping God through music from a young age.

How has your childhood and early life experiences influenced your music style and message?

Losing my father at a young age and being raised by a devoted mother who emphasised faith and devotion to the Lord greatly shaped my worldview and the themes present in my music. My experiences have inspired me to create music that offers hope, comfort, and encouragement to others who may be facing similar challenges.

You mentioned fusing different genres into your music. Can you elaborate on that and how it enhances your message?

While Gospel remains at the core of my music, I believe that incorporating elements from other genres allows me to reach a wider audience and make the message of faith more accessible. By blending contemporary gospel with elements of neo-soul and other genres, I aim to create a unique sound that resonates with diverse listeners while still conveying the timeless message of God’s love and grace.

Can you tell us more about your upcoming EP in the neo-soul genre?

My EP in the neo-soul genre is an exciting new venture for me as an artist. It represents a departure from traditional gospel music while still maintaining a strong spiritual foundation. Through this project, I hope to explore new musical territory while continuing to inspire others and draw them closer to God through my music.

What lessons can you share with others?

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned on this journey, it’s the power of faith, resilience, and authenticity. Embrace your gifts, nurture your passions, and let your light shine brightly, illuminating the path for others to follow. Stay true to your calling, even in the face of adversity, for it’s in the crucible of challenges that character is forged and destinies are shaped. And above all, remember to cultivate a spirit of gratitude, for every note, every moment, is a gift to be cherished and shared with the world.

As a person who is always pouring into other people’s cups, what do you do to refill yours?

Ah, refilling my cup is a sacred ritual, a communion with the divine and a celebration of self-care. I find solace in the simple joys of life - a quiet moment of reflection, a melody whispered by the wind, or the warmth of a loved one’s embrace. Nature, too, is my sanctuary, offering solace amidst the chaos of the world. And, of course, music is my constant companion, a wellspring of inspiration and rejuvenation. By nurturing my soul, I replenish the well of creativity, ensuring that my cup overflows with blessings to share with others.

How do you balance your roles as a musician and your recent appointment as Director of Corporate Communication at BPOPF?

Balancing my musical career with my professional responsibilities at BPOPF can be challenging at times, but I believe that the two roles complement each other in many ways. My experience in corporate communication allows me to effectively promote my music and brand, while my musical background enhances my creativity and communication skills in the corporate world.

What do you believe are the challenges facing gospel artists in Botswana, and how do you plan to address them?

One of the main challenges facing gospel artists in Botswana is the lack of visibility and recognition in the corporate world. Many artists struggle to market their music effectively and often face financial obstacles in producing and promoting their work. As part of my social responsibility, I am committed to raising awareness and support for gospel music by organising charity events and collaborating with sponsors and fellow musicians to assist those in need within our community. Going forward, I will be more inclined into nurturing new talent than being on stage myself.

Can you share your insights on the future of Gospel music in Botswana and how artists can contribute to its growth and development?

I believe that the future of Gospel music in Botswana is bright, but it requires artists to take themselves seriously and strive for professionalism in their craft. This includes moving away from practices such as lip-syncing and embracing live performances, as well as actively seeking opportunities to collaborate and innovate within the industry. By working together and supporting one another, Gospel artists can play a vital role in shaping the future of music in Botswana and beyond.

Finally, thank God it’s Friday, what will you be up to this weekend and where can people follow you and get in touch with you?

I am actually a private person. I will just be at my private space and do church on Sunday.
