RIP MAPETLA

-

DEATH features heavily this week, as we reflect on the untimely passing of a local music legend, look back on the murder of a Mzansi music legend and touch on some outlandish rumours surrounding an American music legend...

Social media was rocked by the sudden passing of local Kwaito legend, Thabo ‘Mapetla’ Ntirang, who died in a car accident early Monday morning.

The entertainment industry and the nation at large poured in their condolences for the fallen ‘Phanz Phezulu’ hit-maker, who was just 40.

Reverend Thuso Tiego posted, “Mapetla Skhokho was our neighbor. He was in our men’s neighborhood Whatsapp group. A very shy gentleman, reserved and very humble. A very talented musician admired by many for making it to the top with ease.”

Vee Mampeezy commented, “The good die young. RIP the Original King Of Kwaito and a multi award winner.”

Another comment read, “My heart breaks for his sister Dato Seiko. The two were very close.”

May his soul rest in peace.

MEEK MILL SLAMS GAY RUMOURS

American rapper, Meek Mill, has been roped into the Diddy controversy after a lawsuit included a redacted footnote which seemed to refer to him, describing the person as ‘a Philadelphia Rapper who dated Nicki Minaj’.

The lawsuit claims that a collaborator of Diddy, Rodney Jones, was forced into sleeping with the described celebrity, who most assume is Meek Mill.

Keen to quash the swelling rumours over his sexuality, the ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ hitmaker said, “They really used a gay narrative to try to overshadow the release of my songs or damage my image. I have the right to say I ain’t gay and I’ll trash anybody that play with my manhood.”

Mill’s straight talk wasn’t enough to convince some.

“I never thought I would see the day when my favourite rapper is gay,” said one comment.

Another quite rightly pointed out, “Meek Mill possibly being gay isn’t the issue here. Diddy possibly sexually assaulting multiple people is the issue. Nothing else. Too many people focused on the wrong thing.”

AKA SUSPECTS ARRESTED This past week saw seven suspects arrested in connection with the murders of South African rapper, Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, and his close friend and business partner, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motshoane, who were gunned down in Durban last year February.

The suspects include two gunmen who allegedly fired the fatal shots, three spotters accused of following AKA from Durban’s airport, the individual who seemingly sourced the firearms used in the ambush, as well as the alleged mastermind.

For once, social media had something positive to say about Mzansi’s law enforcers.

“Credit to SAPS. Instead of arresting the suspects on the murder of AKA and Tibz, which would create media buzz, they arrested them on separate charges, to stop any compromise. They then charged them for the murders at later stage once all the suspects were in custody,” praised one observer.

Sniffing a conspiracy, another noted, “So it took a R800,000 bounty to murder AKA and people still think it didn’t come from his exfiance’s family?”

Calling for justice to be served, someone said, “Hopefully there will be justice here unlike the Senzo Meyiwa case.”

This one is just getting started; social media will be watching closely.
