It’s Tebuanman!

-

Brunei’s first ever superhero comic book, the Chronicles of Tebuanman, has finally made its mark on the nation, rousing and calling to action comic book fans everywhere. With the superhero paying homage to the Tebuan, the legendary Bruneian football team who claimed victory over the 1999 Malaysian Premier League, the comic is a through and through Bruneian publication with interweaving themes of local tales and folklore set in an alternate modern-day Brunei. Fun fact: Tebuan translates to wasp in the Bruneian language.

But creating Brunei’s first comic book series wasn’t enough for creators Khai Anwar and Adi Farhan—they also began AD Publishing with the intention of providing a much-needed platform for local writers and artists to take the first step forward with their own ideas and stories, their first publication being their own brainchild, Tebuanman. With the consecutive issues already in the works, Tebuanman may just be the beacon of hope that the young comic book industry in Brunei has been holding its breath for.
