GLB: Mercedes-Benz’s newest family luxury SUV

- Azrina Zin BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Jati Transport, the sole distributor of MercedesBenz in Brunei, recently introduced the all-new stunning seven-seater luxury SUV, the Mercedes GLB.

Marketed towards young professionals starting their families, the GLB is the first compact vehicle from the German automaker to offer a seven-seat option, which comes with the third row of seats concealed beneath the luggage floor that can be raised to expand capacity.

In terms of size, the SUV is slightly larger than its GLA sibling but smaller than the GLC, offering a blend of the two design philosophies.

Key to the new GLB design is its strikingly dynamic and boxy look, which draws inspiration from the secondgeneration Mercedes G-Class giving the GLB a fresh design language.

Riding on 18-inch alloy wheels, the SUV exudes a distinctive presence with its muscular and sensuously contoured shoulder that dominates the

side view at the height of the C-pillar, giving the SUV a ruggedly handsome look that balances the line between luxury and functionality.

The SUV possesses a level of versatility that stems from its short overhangs and off-road-oriented design: the surfaces of the forms are emphasised, and reduced lines and precise seams are major features.

On the inside, the car has a blend of modern technology and highquality materials that we would expect from a premium automaker which includes a large widescreen cockpit, with control and display via MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience).

The robust character of the interior continues in the centre console. Tubular elements in a machined look lend solidity to the design of the components and controls.

Moreover, the aluminum accents in the dash and doors evoke the grab bars of the iconic G-Class.

A new feature is the offroad-like aluminum-look tubular element in the dashboard on the front passenger side.

The Mercedes GLB is wellsuited for long-distance journeys and has ample space for both driver and passengers, offering maximum comfort while taking up surprisingly little space.

Under the hood, the entry-level GLB 200 places its trust in the fourcylinder petrol which was completely updated to relaunch the compact model series.

In comparison to the previous generation, they are characterised by significantly increased power and torque and by improved efficiency and reduced emissions.

The safety features also include Attention Assist, a practical assistant which includes a 360-degree camera, an active parking assistance system, and an active lane-keeping assist, among others.
