Temples. You’re spoilt for choice, so avoid temple-itis and be selective. Xieng Thong is the best known and has fab mosaics; Sene has a standing “calling for rain” Buddha; Visoun is the watermelon stupa; Choumkhong is small, but with a wonderful garden; and Phra Mahathat has naga steps and painted stories of Buddha’s life.
