Cavs finalise deal with former MVP Rose

THE Cleveland Cavaliers confirmed on Tuesday that free agent point guard Derrick Rose, the 2011 NBA Most Valuable Player, had signed a oneyear contract with the team.

The deal was widely reported on Monday, with multiple media outlets saying Rose had agreed to the veteran minimum salary of $2.1 million.

“We are very excited to be able to add a player of Derrick’s calibre and experience to the team,” newly named General Manager Koby Altman said in a statement.

“Derrick could have gone to a number of other teams, but his specific mindset, goals and total focus and commitment to winning are what resulted i n h i m s i g n i ng w it h t he Cavaliers.”

He became assistant to former General Manager David Griffin last September. He is the fifth GM for owner Dan Gilbert since 2005.

Rose met with Altman and ot her Cava l iers of f icia ls on Monday, just t hree days after meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I have a single focus and purpose of wanting to play to win,” Rose said in a statement. “Being part of a roster and organisati­on that shares that type of commitment mmitment and being able to playay with the Cavaliers and compete pete for a championsh­ip is thee only thing that matters for me.

“I am very happy to be in Cleveland and look forward to getting to o work.”

Rose, 28, averaged 18 points, 3.8 rebounds nds and 4.4 assists s on 47 percent shootingho­oting from the e field in 64 games s for the New York k Knicks last season. on.

Reports put Pachulia’s oneyear deal at $3.5 million and Livingston’s three-year contract at $24 million.

West would be eligible for the veteran minimum of $2.3 million over one year.
