Army, Crown win to keep suspense alive

- HS Manjunath

FRONT running Preah Khan Reach maintained their lead at the top of the Metfone C League standings after a 4-2 home win overWestern Phnom Penh on Saturday.

With the final round of matches billed for this coming weekend, Svay Rieng momentarily led the table by four points over nearest r ivals Nagaworld and Boeung Ket both of whom were taking the pitch a day later.

While Svay Rieng’s superiority was never really put to test, two other games carded for Saturday had a profound bear- ing on the fight for the fourth semifinal slot between the Ar my and Phnom Penh Crown.

In the event, both the Armymen and Crown kept the suspense alive for another week by winning their matches.

Army, who led Crown by three points, going into Game week 21, retained that cushion by eking out a 2-1 win over Asia Europe United at the Old Stadium.

Crown d i s p l a y e d t h e i r resolve to take this duel to dramatic heights by beating National Police on the back of Korean Gisung Yeon’s double.

Going into the final round, Army enjoy a distinct edge yet an unwelcome slip up could create an opening for Crown to lay claims should they pick up all three points in their clash with Preah Khan Reach.

Nagaworld and Boeung Ket are safely home though they may have an eye on the order of finish.
