Buur saves point for Wolves on league debut

-

OSK A R Buu r ma rke d h i s league debut in fair ytale fashion by scoring a late goa l to rescue a 2-2 draw for Championsh ip leaders Wolves at home to struggling Hull Cit y on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old Danish defender’s equaliser seven minutes from time gives Wolves a six-point advantage over Cardiff, who have a game in hand.

The top two clash on Friday in Wales, where defeat for Cardiff would give third-placed Fulham real hope that they can bypass the playoffs and pinch one of the two automatic promotion places.

Fulham are just five points adrift of Cardiff – albeit having played a game more – after strolling to a routine 2-0 win over a lacklustre Leeds side.

The win courtesy of goals by Kevin McDonald and Serbian international striker Aleksandar Mitrovic extended Fulham’s unbeaten run to 18 matches.

Also in the mix are Aston Villa, whose 3-0 win over struggling 10-man Reading ended a run of three matches without a victory for Steve Bruce’s men to keep them only two points off Fulham.

For Bruce’s Reading counterpart, former Swansea boss Paul Clement, the danger of relegation still hangs over the Royals, who only last season reached the playoff final.

They are just five points above third-bottom Barnsley, who have a game in hand.

Another former Swansea manager, Garry Monk, has more reason to smile as the remarkable revival he has sparked at Birmingham City shows no signs of abating.

They beat fellow strugglers Bolton 1-0 – Lukas Jutkiewicz scoring for the first time since September – for a third successive victory and moved alongside their opponents and Reading on 39 points.

Birmingham’s win is a real blow to ailing giants Sunderland, as it leaves the latter eight points adrift of safety and facing the prospect of successive relegations.
