CamAir hosts charity event
AS A new entrant to the airline industry, Cambodia Airways raised its presence in the Kingdom on Sunday with a massive charity event called the Cambodia Airways Charity Fund, which involved 1,000 beneficiaries.
The event saw gifts presented to 500 primary, secondary and high school students from Prek Thmey commune in the capital. Students were given books, pens, a whitener pen, a ruler and a backpack.
Among the adults who received the aid, 200 were from Prek Pra commune and 300 from Prek Thmei commune, both in Chbar Ampov district
Each person received a case of noodles, six cans of fish, a bottle of cooking oil, a kilogram of white rice noodles, and six bottles of fish sauce.
Cambodia Airways’ general manager of marketing and sales, Julia Xu Yanmeng, said the charity event is part of the airline’s corporate social responsibility campaign to help the downtrodden in Cambodian society.
“Cambodia Airways believes it is our responsibility as a good corporate citizen to help the lower-income and vulnerable groups. That is why we started the Cambodia Airways Charity Fund, which is our vehicle to help those in need.
“This is the least we can do to help the less fortunate. We also hope that we can join forces with other local and foreign-owned companies in Cambodia to make the peo- ple’s lives better,” she said.
Xu added that the aid to the 1,000 people will continue as frequently as possible. The airline’s staff, she said, will identify the communes and villages that have specific needs, and Cambodia Airways will do its best to fulfill them.
Korng Yheng, 67, who was among the recipients, said she was very grateful to the airline for its assistance.
“I have one son who works as a school security guard. He can’t really support me well as he has a family of his own, so the food items will be of great help to me,” she said.
A 14-year-old student, Srey Pich, said her family was in a bad financial situation and that she needed all the help she could get.
“My grandfather is sick, my mother is jobless, and my father is a construction worker who doesn’t earn very much. So I am very happy to receive the stationary because I really want to study hard,” she said.
