KMH Super Cup added to tournament series

WITH the domestic football season set to wind up in the next couple of weeks, a private enterprise, the KMH Industrial Park, situated on the outskirts of the capital in Choam Chao near Phnom Penh Inter national Airpor t, has unveiled its plan to introduce the KMH Super Cup as part of a three-tournament series in the coming months and stretching well into 2019.

Launched two years ago as a semiprofessional football stage for local teams with KMH Champions League and the U18 KMH Cup, the organisers have expanded its size and scope this year by adding the Super Cup involving six teams drawn from various expat communities and enthusiastic overseas participants, splitting them into European All Stars, African All Stars, Asian All stars and Cambodian combinations. The Champions League returns with 32 teams already registered. The roster will also be good for the U18 event.

For the third year, ISI Steel continues as the main sponsor, with Picnosa and Fuxin lending additional support totalling $52,000. All the matches will be played at the KMH Stadium in Choam Chao.

Director of KMH Park Kang Sen told a news conference on Saturday that plans were afoot to increase the fanbase, and he appealed to followers of football to watch the games, which will be live-streamed.

The park will also be introducing an online ticket booking platform for the three-event series scheduled to begin next month with the Super Cup, which is widely expected to be very competitive with some of the foreign players signed in for various regular League teams pitching in as all stars among the community they represent.

Some of the local teams may also include several prominent young and upcoming players who are looking for national recognition.

According to KMH Park Manager Sovann Siek, sponsors like Wing and Grab will provide special packages and promotional codes to help ease transport to the games.
