- HS Manjunath

RUGBY-INSPIRED youth development organisation Kampuchea Balopp will roll out its annual Cambodia 10s Social Rugby Tournament and other added attractions, with six foreign teams including from Australia in the fray.

Teams from Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore will also be in the thick of action spread across an event for the Old Boys (over-35s) and women over the weekend at Northbridge International School.

As many as eight teams will line up for the men’s 10s, while six teams will compete to celebrate the Old Boys annual reunion. There are four teams vying for honors in the women’s event.

As has been the tradition, Saturday afternoon has been set aside for Children’s coaching clinics led by Kampuchea Balopp sports educators.

After Saturday’s pool games, Sunday sees the men’s knockout stages including the final, while the Old Boys and the women’s competitions will run through the whole of Saturday.

Vietnam’s top notchers Mighty Geckos from Ho Chi Minh City are the defending Men’s 10s champions, while Singapore’s Yarrra! carried the title home last year.

Sparkly Rahus who lived up to their name in 2017 will be aiming to retain their supremacy once again.

Entrance to the venue on both days is free and catering services at the ground are available from Blue Pumpkin.

Host of sponsors and partners supporting this fun filled, socially amenable yet highly competitive event include Blue Pumpkin, CLIK, Naga Clinic, Northbridge International School, the Decathlon Foundation, GoGreen, DanMeats, Samai Rum Distillery, Crossroads Brewing and ICC Chiropractic Clinic.

Meanwhile, GoGreen will also be assisting Kampuchea Balop in reducing the use of plastic at the event and is helping to oversee waste management disposal programme.

A main feature of the event is that the referees for the tournament are volunteers either living in Cambodia or flying in for the event from Britain and Australia, and they donate rugby kit and assist with professional development during their stay here. The Assistant Referees are volunteers from the Lycee Francais Rene Descartes and ISPP.
