Curiousity piqued over ‘drone pieces’
SEVENTEEN aluminium and rubber fragments discovered scattered throughout Srayong commune, in Kulen district, Preah Vihear province on Thursday have been identified as parts of a drone.
Preah Vihear provincial police chief major general Yin Chamnan said people in the commune were awoken by loud crashes at around 6am on Thursday.
While they could not identify the source of the noise, they discovered aluminium and rubber debris at different locations
Chamnan told The Post that police concluded the debris were parts of a drone.
“Maybe these fragments are parts of a drone that someone flew. The parts were not relatively big,” he said, despite pictures showing other wise.
He said that the authorities are currently searching for more fragments and investigating the matter.
Srayong commune police chief Chan Ketya, who went to collect the fallen pieces, said they do not pose a threat.
“We have found more than 17 fallen fragments of aluminium and rubber. But, we are continuing the search and are collecting f urt her information from t he people at t he scene.”
Ket ya said the drone fragments had scattered throughout Srayong commune within a radius of 10km.
He said t he materia l of t he collected fragments are the same as the those collected in a similar incident in Preah Vihear back in 2009.
