Report filed against tax office chief

TWO people who lodged a complaint against the head of the Tuol Kork district tax office called on the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) to investigate the defendant’s “wrongdoing”.

Signed on August 1, the complaint letter – seen by The Post on Wednesday – showed Ul Chanry and Prom Phally alleging that

Yun Chendavuth had committed “serious corruption and abuse of power”.

“Chendavuth used his position as head of the Tuol Kork district tax office to put pressure on [his subordinates] and force them to collect money from small business owners in the district for personal use,” the letter read.

The defendant, it added, also threatened to sack the lower-level tax officers if they attempt to collect taxes from the companies that Chendavuth protects.

Moreover, the letter indicated that ever since Chendavuth became the tax office boss, “good” tax officers left in droves, while the “corrupt” ones – those who are able to collude with the defendant – remained.

“I sincerely hope that the government and ACU would launch an investigation against Chendavuth,” they said in the letter.

Anti-Corruption Unit head Om Yentieng could not be reached for comment as of press time.
