Anti-drugs police hunt for accomplices after two women arrested
THE Ministr y of Interior’s anti-drugs police department is look ing for accomplices after t wo women were detained for drug trafficking in Phnom Penh on Sunday, wit h t he seizure of 22 packets of what is believed to be methamphetamine.
In a separate case, a man was placed in pre-trial detention in Takeo provincial prison for a similar offence.
In Song, t he anti-drugs department’s deput y bureau chief told The Post on Monday that the two women were arrested on Sunday in t he capita l’s Russey Keo dist r ict.
The case was under further investigation by authorities.
“Our department cracked down on the trafficking of illicit drugs, but I cannot give you more details because police are still working on the case,” he said.
The suspects, both female, were aged 25 and 31. Antidrugs police arrested them on Sunday in Chong Ksach village, in Russey Keo’s Tuol Sangke I commune, the police report said.
Twenty-t wo packages of a white powder believed to be methamphetamine, two sets of weighing sca les, bags for packaging drugs and equipment for their consumption were among the ev idence seized.
In a separate case, Takeo provincial court placed 32year-old Nget Sambo in pretrial detention on Sunday after he was charged with trafficking drugs following his arrest the previous day.
“The suspect was charged by t he prov incia l court under Article 40 of the Law on Drugs Control,” Takeo prov incia l court spokesman Phan Sopheak told The Post on Monday.
The man was charged by Investigating Judge Kong Um Min, he added.
“Takeo prov incia l militar y drugs police cracked down on the suspected tra f ficking and possession of illega l drugs in Chork v illage, in Donkeo cit y’s Roka Knong commune.
“This action resulted in the detention of one suspect and the seizure of eight packets of methamphetamine, one set of weighing scales, two mobile phones and packaging equipment,” Takeo provincial military police said on social media Saturday.
