Photograph­s of six men wanted for ‘throwing rocks’ at officer released

BANTEAY Meanchey Military Police have released photograph­s of six people wanted for allegedly throwing rocks at a Military Policeman on April 28, fracturing his skull, as they called on the public to inform them if they see any of the suspects.

Police arrested two men, aged 17 and 22, during a disturbanc­e in Poipet town, before a group of people, including the six suspects who remain at large, began throwing rocks at the authoritie­s, with one missile striking the Military Policeman’s head.

Provincial Military Police communicat­ions officer Lak Phy named the victim as Sok Meta, a Military Policeman in Banteay Meanchey province.

Phy’s team has been working wit h relevant aut horit ies to inform t he public, and he appealed to people who know of t he suspects’ whereabout­s to immediatel­y inform Banteay Meanchey prov incia l aut horities.

“After the incident, at first the victim could only speak gibberish because of his head injury.

“He had an open skull fracture and bleeding to the brain as a result of the suspects throwing rocks at him. Thankfully, his condition is now improving,” Phy said.

He said the incident happened on April 28 during a clash bet ween t wo groups in Kampong Svay commune’s Kampong Svay v i l lage in Poipet town.

Provincial Military Police attempted to intervene but the bulk of the group escaped, Phy said, and they were only able to detain two people.

Following the arrests, the provincial Military Police questioned the two detainees, but their cohorts returned on motorbikes and started to throw rocks at the authoritie­s, which is when Meta was struck and seriously injured.

Phy said the authoritie­s sent the victim to the emergency room at Banteay Meanchey Referral Hospital. However, because of the seriousnes­s of his condition, Meta was transferre­d to a Thai hospital.

Follow ing extensive treatment, Phy said, t he Militar y Policeman’s condition is improv ing and he is now able to communicat­e.
