Three dead after drunk driver hits motorbike

A MOTORCYCLI­ST and his t wo passengers were killed on the spot in the early hours of Wednesday after being hit by a speeding car on National Road 6 in the capital’s Chroy Chang var district.

Municipa l t ra f f ic pol ice chief Sem Kunthea declined to provide det a i l s on Wednesday, say i ng only t hat t he men were factor y workers.

“They succumbed to their injuries even before we could send them to hospital. Only one of them was wearing a helmet,” he said.

A t r a f f ic pol ic e of f ic er who asked not to be named said t he “drunk” driver was detained for questionin­g and would be sent to court on Thursday.

Fresh News repor ted t hat t he men were riding a motorbike on National Road 6 at around 2am on Wed nesday when a speed i ng Toyota pick-up t r uck dr iv ing in the same the direction hit them from behind, sending them f lying around 100m.

The unidentif ied driver tried to f lee t he scene but was a r rested a f ter t ra f f ic pol ice of f icers a nd loca l residents gave chase.
