Man sent to court for trying to kill ex
THE Kandal Provincial Court on Wednesday sent a man to t he provi nci al pr i s on f or attempting to kill his former girlfriend last month. He had allegedly committed the crime on February 9, but was at large until recently.
Kandal deputy military police chief Sam Tola told The Post on Thursday that Chork Poeurn, 36, from Kampong Svay commune, was arrested on March 15 in his rented room in Kampong Samnah commune.
According to the victim, on the day of the incident, the suspect went to her house at midnight and begged her to open the door and let him stay overnight.
The victim, who was alone in the house, refused to open the door. Using a machete that he carried with him at all times, the suspect broke the door down and entered the house.
Gripped by fear, the woman ran out of the house through the back door but tripped and fell to the ground after running for about 200 metres. The suspect was then able to get hold of her and started pulling her towards the house.
As she was being dragged to t he house against her will, t he woman saw some police officer s s t a nd i ng out s ide a nd screa med for help. The suspect then raised his machete
intending to slit her throat. She used her hands to stop the blow, causing injuries to four of her fingers.
“Unfortunately, she received a blow to her right arm. She also sustained injuries to her backbone and collar bones. The suspect then ran away and disappeared,” Tola said.
He managed to escape because the police officers went to the women’s aid as she was bleeding and rushed her to a hospital.
More than a month after the events, the suspect was spotted by police officers and arrested.
“The suspect confessed to the crime and said did i t because he was angry and jealous. The victim had recently broken up with him and had begun a relationship with someone else,” he said.
