Cellcard and Royal Group signal introducti­on of 5G with signing of agreement with ZTE

CELLCARD, part of the Royal Group of Companies, on Wednesday signed a major framework agreement with ZTE Corporatio­n for the introducti­on of 5G, as well as to increase 4G coverage and capacity across Cambodia.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Royal Group chairman Neak Oknha Kith Meng and ZTE Southeast Asia managing director of engineerin­g and services Song Chaojun, with senior management from both companies in attendance.

The agreement comes at a crucial time for Cellcard and Royal Group as they formalise plans for rolling out 5G and evolving 4G LTE coverage and quality.

The agreement covers a significan­t financial investment that will position Cambodia as a one of the leading nations in the region for 5G adoption.

Cellcard, the only Cambodiano­wned operator in the Kingdom and t he longest ser v ing wit h 24 years of operations, has long advocated its 5G intentions to br ing to f r uition t he chair man of t he Royal Group’s v ision of a f ully digita lised Cambodia.

Neak Oknha Kith Meng’s v ision directly suppor ts the Royal Gover nment’s agenda for Industr y 4.0 to suppor t the growth of the economy and the Kingdom’s GDP, and to empower all Cambodians to benefit f rom t he advantages of liv ing in a digita l societ y.

Royal Group’s ICT Division of Cellcard, Wing Money and Ezecom as well as broadcasti­ng operations CBS and Digital Sky are in close collaborat­ion on a shared digital strategy for Cambodia.

T he strateg y will see a f ull transfor mation of t he IC T sector as t he role of connectiv it y, data, content and secur it y in people’s ever yday lives changes with the introducti­on of 5G and the largescale adoption of technologi­es such as t he “Inter net of T hings” (IoT), big data, ar t ificial intelligen­ce (AI), v ir t ual realit y ( V R) and augmented realit y (AR).

Neak Oknha Kith Meng said Cellcard toget her wit h t he IC T Div ision’s operations would ensure t he introducti­on of 5G in Cambodia would be of great humanitar ian impact, improving healthcare, education and secur it y for all, and help dr ive a strong Cambodian economy into t he f ut ure.
