Winter coats issued to troops in B Meanchey

ROYAL Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) deputy commanderi­n-chief Hun Manet distribute­d more than 12,000 winter coats on November 10 to the army, border police and Militar y Police in Militar y Region 5 for use in the coming winter.

Major General Chhun Mao, the first regional commander of Military Region 5 in Banteay Meanchey province, told The Post the winter coats were a precious gift. He said it showed the deep respect of the government for the armed forces, which are fulfilling their role of protecting the peace of the people and society.

“We are very pleased as the coat will provide comfort to our forces in conducting security patrols along the border,” he said.

Mao said the weather on the Cambodian-Thai border in Ba n t e a y Me a n c h e y h a s dropped to 20 degrees Celsius with strong winds, especially between 5am and 8am.

Chak Vichet, a military officer at Infantry Brigade 51 in the province, said coats were also distribute­d last year. In the rainy season, the government also provided raincoats to the army and the armed forces.

“When the rainy season comes, I get a raincoat, and now

that winter is approachin­g, I also get a winter coat, which shows the government cares about our wellbeing,” he said.

The coat distributi­on took place at Infantry Brigade 51 Command in Preah Netr Preah district’s Chup Vary commune. Manet called on the military forces to strengthen their management and be ready with all means and materials.

“The forces must regularly inspect the circulatio­n of explosives weapons and weed out the illegal use of weapons in Banteay Meanchey province,” he said.

According to a weather forecast from the Ministry of Water

Resources and Meteorolog­y released on November 10, temperatur­es could drop to between 20C and 21C for the provinces adjacent to the Dangrek mountains range and northeaste­rn highlands. In the central lowlands, temperatur­es could drop to between 21C and 23C, and in coastal provinces, it will hover between 22C and 24C.

The ministry said the cold temperatur­es caused by tropical depression and low pressure are related to tropical storms Etau and Vamco and will occur from November 15-17. Cool winds and light to moderate rainfall are expected.
