MINISTRY of Education, Youth and Sports is conducting the first e-learning forum in Cambodia from December 3-4.

The ministry organised the forum in collaboration with IT Academy STEP Cambodia and The Idea Consultancy.

Around 30 educational speakers will share experiences on digital education and addressing challenges to students, guardians and educational institutions.

During the forum’s opening ceremony on December 3, the ministry’s undersecretary of state Sann Vathana said the two-day forum will have educational experts, policymakers and service providers share their personal experience.

He said their full discussion and ideas on education policy implementation will be beneficial to promoting e-learning.

“The digital forum is a new approach in providing education to students in the context of Covid-19. We join this forum to ensure an effective education for our children,” he said.

Education minister Hang Chuon Naron said that since March 2020, the ministry has started to practice measures in enhancing digital learning in Cambodia, such as implementing online teaching via live video streaming for grade 1 to grade 12 students.

The purpose of this measure is to ensure students continue to receive education from home during the school closure period.

“The e-learning forum is an opportunity for us to share good practices for improving digital learning. It also gives an opportunity to our children to continue their education by using digital platforms like Youtube and Facebook on digital tools, such as computers and mobile phones,” he said.

“The e-learning forum discusses approaches that can enhance digital integration in Cambodia and other developing countries,” he said, adding the ministry had also been cooperating with the Ministry of Information to encourage e-learning through Youtube and Facebook

The announcement about the forum stated that during the digital event, students and all participants can view the presentation from expert speakers in the field of education.

It also has a “question and answer” (Q&A) function.

Additionally, the e-learning forum provides news, advices and important resources to tackle issues related to learning and teaching. This is done through electronic or issues of students, students’ guardians, educators and education institutions in Cambodia.
