M’kiri, Vietnam’s Dak Lak police to strengthen co-op
MONDULKIRI provincial police and Vietnam’s Dak Lak provincial police remain committed to continued cooperation in crime prevention and enforcement in the border region.
The commitment was made at an April 4 meeting, held to discuss cooperation.
The meeting was attended by 15 Cambodian representatives, led by provincial police chief Lor Sokna and the deputy director of the National Police’s border affairs department. The Vietnamese delegation of 15 was led by Le Vinh Quy, director of the Dak Lak provincial police.
Sokha opened the meeting, saying that in 2020 and 2021 the Covid-19 pandemic badly affected practical cross-border cooperation.
“However, our two sides kept each other informed and exchanged information with each other through our common communication networks as well as through meeting on the border. Both sides strictly followed the health protocols advised by our respective health ministries at these meetings,” he said.
According to a report, the two sides pledged to continue the plans signed by the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia and the Ministry of Police of Vietnam.
“The plans were signed by the leaders of the two ministries, and the two provincial police chiefs agreed to continue to follow the agreement that was signed,” the report said.
Sokha said that the two sides were working together extensively and exchanging criminal intelligence on many cross-border crimes, including the trafficking of women and children or drugs, as well as economic crimes.
“We are proud of the speed with which we alert our counterparts across the border to
illegal activities, and they reciprocate,” he added.
Le Vinh Quy said the bonds of solidarity and cooperation between the Mondulkiri Provincial Police and the Dak Lak Provincial Police Department had always contributed to crime prevention along the border.“In an atmosphere of closeness, solidarity, friendship and mutual understanding, our two sides discussed and agreed to continue with the 12-point plan of cooperation we made in 2020-2021,” he was quoted as saying.
